Racqueteers v Milburys – 10th August 2023 (North Walls)
Our return fixture against the travelling Milbury’s was played under a sparkling scudding sky on lush deep green sward – proof of the amount of rain August had brought. We batted first, having lost the toss but with confidence founded on the collective batting firepower assembled. As always, our opponents bowled with discipline and penetration – leavened as they were by a number of talented colts. On a slow but largely true wicket we set a competitive 129 for 8. The most notable contributions being from Dave (25 not out) and Rishi (32 not out) – the former lacing power with elegance, the later batting with explosive athleticism. Skip (19) and Tom T (14) also broke double figures. When Milburys started their reply, they clearly meant business and scored quickly – as they needed to. But this wasn’t to last and with disciplined bowling from Tom T (1-17 – youthfully game), Stu (1-8 – guile born of experience) and Rishi (1-22 – quick and full) the run rate dropped well below that required by mid innings. Farmer Chris, Paddy and Skip added spice to our bowling mix. In the end, although we only took 3 wickets, it was a comfortable and impressive Racqueteers win, against worthy opponents with many talented players – as they finished 26 runs short. So overall the honours were even for 2023 season: Racqueteers 1 – Milbury’s 1.
Racqueteers win by 26 runs
