The Racqueteers v RHCH CC 14/7/22
It was another roasting hot July day for our evening match v The Hospital on a baked River Park wicket.
We were additionally blessed with an all-Racqueteers umpiring team – our esteemed President and the ever-laconic Sepia!
Losing the toss (again!) we unsurprisingly found ourselves in the field against one of our regular, friendly and competitive local opponents.
The Hospital’s innings started brightly enough as boundaries came on a quick outfield with fifty arriving for the loss of just one wicket in the 10th over.
But everything was about to change with the introduction of the Head of Salmon…
His accurate and probing spell, backed up with some good catches from G, The Prof and two from the Skipper, produced a career-best 5 for 14 in his 4 overs! Superb.
With Stu & Max both taking a wicket apiece and two expert run outs, we held the opposition to 90 for 9 in their 20 overs.
In reply to this, the Skip (who went on to retire on 27) made a positive start with a string of crisp boundaries and although the returning Prof fell cheaply to a turning leg-break, the momentum towards the total was always maintained by the powerful Dave F (25 retired).
Added to this, some fine strokes from Guy S (14) and Aussie Stu (11^) saw us over the line to a memorable win with overs to spare.
Drinks and hotdogs back at the King Alf rounded off a most satisfactory & enjoyable summer evening for the Racqueteers. Well played all!
