The Racqueteers v The Milbury’s, Tuesday, 11/05/21.
As we assembled at the beautiful Holt ground for our annual contest against the ever-friendly Milbury’s, the weather rather closed in. Rain clouds threatened but after 15 mins of annoyingly persistent rain, the weather cleared and allowed us to go ahead with an 18 overs a side match.
We lost the toss and fielded first but with an excellent tight opening spell from both Mike C (3 overs 1 for 8) and Danger (aka. Angus) talking 3 emphatic wickets for only 10 runs, we were soon in total control on the low-bouncing and slightly damp artificial track.
Ably supported by Lawrence (Head of Salmon), Chris, on his home turf, and the ever lively Harry T – who blew the Milbury’s tail away returning 4 wickets for only 13 – all backed up by great work behind the stumps from G, and the job was done: the home team bowled out for only 78!
In reply, with the evening clearing to some welcome watery sunshine, and despite losing Edmund early on, the Prof and the Skipper both played with positive intent stroking an array of boundaries that saw them both retire on 26 & 25 respectively.
The momentum continued with the President (12 not out) and Harry T (16 not out) both playing fluently with more graceful boundaries to see us comfortably home.
An excellent first win of the season on a beautiful ground; well played the Racqueteers!
Welcome refreshments were then enjoyed in the garden at The Milbury’s to complete a most enjoyable evening.
Up next is our inaugural match in Surrey as we visit The Crown Taverners on Sunday 23rd.
